Hello! I am Karlo de Leon from the Philippines.

I earned my BS Physics degree from the National Institute of Physics at the University of the Philippines Diliman and under the supervision of my adviser, Ian Vega (personal site, lab page). I was a recipient of the university's Presidential Scholarship from 2015-2019 and the Sally Estella O'Connor scholarship during my last year in the undergraduate. In 2019, I graduated summa cum laude along with two other awards: the Joker P. Arroyo award for outstanding BS Physics graduate and the Leticia Shahani award for best undergraduate thesis in physics. I was fortunate enough to come across a problem that gave novel results, which we published in Physical Review D. This was also the topic of my undergraduate thesis. Currently, I am an instructor at my home institution and at the same time taking up my master's degree in physics.

I also do things outside of physics. Since 2015, I have been consistently attending the music extension program at the UP College of Music under the mentoring of Carlo Tuazon, a member of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. However, I stopped when the COVID pandemic began. I studied violin and was able to perform on a number of recitals together with small kids and working adults wanting to pursue their musical passions on the side. On my last year as an undergraduate, I also got into studying Japanese. After 12 units of language courses, I was able to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) at the level of N4. Learning Japanese also introduced me to the art of Japanese calligraphy or shodo. I tried to study how to use the brush on the internet, and sometimes I do shodo when there is inspiration (although it still highly debatable if we can really call them calligraphy).
